Fill cartons to capacity; partially full or bulging cartons may tip or collapse. Heavy items like books or tools should be packed in small cartons so they are easy to handle. Books should be packed flat, not on their spines. Packing and labelling cartons room by room makes the unpacking much easier, and if you need to find something in storage you will have some idea of which carton to begin looking in.
Fridges, freezers and other white goods should be thoroughly DRY and CLEAN before storing. Whilst in storage the door should be secured slightly ajar. A deodoriser placed inside fridges or freezers is also a good idea to maintain freshness. Don't place items inside fridges or freezers as the shelves and linings can be easily marked and damaged.

Spend some time taking into consideration how you are going to pack your property. Books are straight forward but weighty. Valuables need particular care when wrapping and will take time, and certain furniture may need to be dismantled.
Pack one room at a time, labelling each box with details of its contents and where it should be placed in your new home e.g. kitchen, bathroom, garage. Visibly mark “Fragile” on the outer surface of cartons, do not mark all boxes with fragile only boxes which actually have fragile items inside. A great idea is to tape a sign on rooms in new house with names so corresponding boxes can be placed directly in these rooms. Pack important papers together, for instance birth and marriage certificates & passports, keep them in a safe place.
